Greetings Indiana ACP Colleagues,
If you are anything like me, you are grateful and joyful for the new season of weather, this May. Truth be told, I often find something to celebrate in any season, but snowflakes in mid-April can always be a bit much. I do hope that you are all doing well, and caring for yourselves, as you go about caring for so many, every day. There may be issues, or just moments, that seem to bring much uncertainty to you, your family and your patients, but in such moments, try and stay focused on the things that remain within our circles of control.
Let me start with a heartfelt thank you to all of our members in the Fort Wayne area, who came out to the Meet and Greet, on March 14th. It was lovely chatting with all of you, as we enjoyed some really good food. That cr猫me brulee was amazing :)
We are also just coming off a very successful ACP National Meeting, in early April, in New Orleans. I had the pleasure of meeting with several of our poster presenters, as well the absolute honor of walking several new Fellows from Indiana, at the National ACP Convocation 鈥 always a professional highlight for me. The Indiana Chapter did join arms with several other chapters, as we took over the Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans, for a very special social celebration. My evening was absolutely made, by old and new friends alike. New Orleans did not disappoint鈥or did the beignets.
We have the upcoming Leadership Day as well, later this month. The Indiana ACP Chapter will be sending a delegation with practicing physicians, medical students, and leaders from the Governor's Council, as we brought key issues to Capitol Hill. We will continue to advocate for vital medical funding, legislation to secure permanent telehealth flexibilities, as well as the pushing the importance of vaccines, and more. Stay tuned for much more on all updates, from our Advocacy Chair, Dr Kat Palmisano in May.
Looking ahead, please try and join us, as we travel to Muncie for our annual Meet and Greet on Friday, May 30th. As always, we hope to see as many residents, and practicing physicians as possible, as we continue to strengthen the ACP bond, and spread the message across the state.
For those of you who cannot join us in person, please always know that the ACP website is so very full of resources for each of us, no matter what stage of practice, or our need, from CME needs to advocacy to clinical information.

We are often blessed when we experience a 鈥渇irst鈥 in life. I recently had the chance to take a 10-day long RV trip, across multiple states. We had to learn (or remind ourselves) to stay curious and approach many situations with both an open mind as well as a beginner's attitude. If we use these seemingly simple principles to most circumstances in life, we may find these 鈥渓ife lessons鈥 may be a little easier to learn. Such are the guiding principles of mindfulness. So, whether you find yourself figuring out how to empty the poop tank of an RV or simply deal with your kids entering a new curious stage in life and testing their limits, I encourage you to stay curious, give grace and (always) use a little humor.
Be well and stay well, always,
Dee

ACP Internal Medicine 2025

Attending the National ACP Meeting in New Orleans was an unforgettable experience - I'm so grateful to the Indiana ACP Chapter for this generous opportunity! It was an honor to share the research I've been working on throughout medical school alongside so many outstanding medical students presenting a wide variety of impactful projects. I loved connecting with fellow medical students, internal medicine trainees, and professionals from across the country, learning about current best practices in patient care, and getting inspired by the incredible work being done and new technologies arising in the field. As someone who completed my third-year internal medicine rotation at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, it was especially fun to reconnect with several awesome Parkview IM residents I had worked with previously who were also presenting! Of course, no trip to New Orleans would be complete without a stop at Caf茅 du Monde! Thank you again for supporting students like me and making this amazing experience possible. I look forward to remaining engaged with the ACP at the national and local level for years to come!

The experience was great! I have never presented in front of a group of judges, so this was excellent exposure. It was also amazing to hear research from other medical students across the country!

Support ACP Member Running for AMA Governing Council Position
ACP is proud to Dr. Elisa Choi's candidacy for re-election to the AMA Women Physicians Section (WPS) Governing Council (GC), as member at-large. She is a current member of the AMA WPS Governing Council and is also the current Chair of the AMA WPS.
Dr. Choi is a past Chair of the ACP Board of Governors and the immediate past Governor of the Massachusetts ACP Chapter, becoming the first woman of Asian descent to be elected to both leadership roles. Dr. Choi recently completed her tenure as an ACP Regent. ACP believes Dr. Choi would continue to be an outstanding asset to the AMA's WPS Governing Council. Dr. Choi is a strong advocate for internal medicine and has fostered collaborations with other AMA Sections, has encouraged a supportive WPS community both in person and via online networks, and has promoted meaningful connections within the larger AMA and WPS membership. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, and has a particular interest in healthcare disparities, and in providing culturally competent care of health issues affecting the Pan Asian and other minoritized patient populations.
Please check your inbox for an email with the subject line: Elect your AMA WPS Governing Council members today! If you did not receive a ballot and are eligible to vote, you can request one at this link:
Voting ends Wednesday April 30, 2025.
