Measure Info
ACP does not support “Statin Therapy for Patients with Diabetes” at the health plan level because there is no testing data. There are also concerns with the burden of monitoring statin therapy. Physicians should counsel their patients on the medication benefits and address potential side effects. However, patient medication adherence should not be measured for physician reimbursement since it is not within a physician’s control to monitor adherence. Medication costs and availability also need to be taken into consideration, which affects patient adherence. There should also be an exception in the measure specifications for patient refusal.
